Why Lowlands Matter?

Lowlands are where most of us live and produce our food and they are the most pressured environments for our wildlife.  ‘Why Lowland Matter’ seeks to give lowland nature a voice and explore how we harmonise land use activities for the benefit of all, including wildlife.

Too often, those that do not agree stand back and fire criticisms and counter-criticisms at each other without actually having a conversation about the topic. Why Lowlands Matter (WLM) evolved from our successful events in the uplands. Though perhaps less polarised and with more informed opinions, the challenges in the lowlands are equally acute and stand to impact Britain’s wildlife and the farming, fieldsports and conservation communities that look after and live along side it just as much.

We therefore believe that gathering interested parties to spend time together, in the same house, enjoying what they care about, sharing meals and experiences and allowing them to freely express their views to become better informed is of equal importance in the lowlands. There is the same hope that such parties and individuals can build on what they do agree on, as well as find compromises and solutions to the issues they do not, to safeguard the future of Britain’s wildlife and our local communities while improving food security.

Farmland Tours

Our farmland tours are an integral part of our events. Each guest is assigned to a vehicle for each session. Plant, wildlife, insect, and farm experts will be on hand.

In field discussions

A considerable amount of time is spent enjoying group discussions both at the house as well as in the field with the group and field experts.

Networking

Our events are a great opportunity meet experts in their field with extensive experience, and to build on those introductions into something fruitful.
